The first build from PHNX Development saw iSPAN’s Composite TotalJoist and TotalJoist systems used for the Palos Residence / PHNX1 project. This build was unique in that it involved rebuilding homes after devastating forest fires had ripped through California. This building is a type II building, meaning it is completely non-combustible and also net zero!
The load-bearing walls on this project are ICF which allowed iSPAN’s Composite TotalJoist floor system to be easily integrated. Because of the 14” deep Composite TotalJoists, the owner was easily able to contain the HVAC and mechanical in the floor system, ultimately eliminating the need for bulkheads.
When it comes to the roof framing, like the rest of the project, a unique solution was found. TotalJoists were sloped and connected to the ICF using steel-ledger track and joist hangers. A Sure-Board sheathing was then applied, followed by a 4” SIP panel fastened to the joist.
This project was constructed in under a year and within budget!
